T-shaped limestone pillars at Göbeklitepe

Şanlıurfa · Upper Mesopotamia

Where memory
became stone.

Long before writing, communities gathered on this hill and shaped a new language of monument, symbol and belonging.

01 / The beginning

Not the beginning
of humanity.
A new chapter in
how we gathered.

At Göbeklitepe, hunter-gatherer communities raised monumental circular and rectangular structures from the limestone plateau. Their T-shaped pillars—some carved with foxes, birds, serpents and human details—still hold questions we have not answered.

Built during the Pre-Pottery Neolithic, the site gives rare form to a pivotal human transition: people organizing at scale, making shared spaces and expressing a complex symbolic world.

one answer.
They invite us to look again.

02 / A living city

Twelve millennia
are still speaking.

Urfa is not a monument frozen in time. Its identity lives in courtyards and copper workshops, in sacred water, long evening songs and tables built for sharing.

Voice & fellowship

More than a performance: an Urfa tradition of gathering, conversation, food and music passed from one voice to another.

03 / The table

Culture you
can taste.

Pepper, isot, lamb, bulgur and patience. In Urfa, recipes are social memory—and the table is where the city becomes most generous.
